March 2nd Meeting Report

Friends of Baldwin met on March 2. Chairman Dick Sute said that he will talk to Wayne Dyess about Zoning in District 14 along Fish River. He has met with Rep, Steve McMillan with concerns about some language in the Wastewater bill. He has looked into the spreading of sludge in some areas of the County, which is being done by a subsidiary of Waste Management. While they are not always covering it within 6 hrs, as they are supposed to do, it is free to the farmers and we don't want to antagonize them..

Daniel Dyas, Chairman of the Citizens' Advisory Committee in District 21, gave a very interesting presentation about Transferable Development Rights, a concept whereby development rights to land can be sold to develop in other specified areas and the land retained. It has worked successfully in South Fulton County, Georgia. For more information visit Friends of Baldwin.com. Rep. Steve McMillan was present and said he would broach the concept at a meeting with the County Commissioners that afternoon.
The League of Women Voters announced a Conference on Critical water Issues to be held on March 26 from 2:00 to 5:00 at the Baldwin Co. Administration Bldg. in Bay Minette.
Friends of Baldwin will meet on Mon., April 5, same time, same place.
