June 1st, 2009 Meeting Report

Friends of Baldwin met in Robertsdale on Monday, June 1.

Martha Crosby reported that an enthusiastic group of volunteers has been recruited to work in neighborhoods to obtain signatures on the petition to request zoning in District 14.

Tom Schlinkert reported that he and Dick Sute had met with Vince Calametti of the Department of Transportation about the connector between I-65 and I-90 to discourage having the highway pass adjacent to Forever Wild property and wetlands. Mr. Calametti appears receptive to having the highway go directly south near the Foley Beach Express and was aware of the public interest of Friends of Baldwin.
Everyone is encouraged to attend the P& Z meeting on June 4 at 6:00 p.m. at the Robertsdale annex to protest renewing permits for a large development in the sensitive area next to Pole Cat Creek which flows into Fish River.

John Carleton, former Director of the Regional Office of ADEM in Mobile, gave a very informative talk about the structure of ADEM and how to get their attention. Contact information for ADEM officials was previously e-mailed.
The next Friends of Baldwin meeting will be on Mon., July 6.
