September 3, 2009 Meeting Report

 

 
    Friends of Baldwin met on September 14 at Mama Lou's in Robertsdale. Dick Sute and Tom Schlinkert reported they had met with Orange Beach in an attempt to gain support for the County plan in lieu of the State plan for the I-65-I-10 Connector. They had a substantive conversation although they were disappointed the mayor was not there. The County Commission has voted to do an Environmental Impact Study for the plan Co.Engineer Cal Markert is proposing.
     Dick Sute reported they need several hundred more signatures for the zoning peition for District 14.
     Roberta Swann, newly appointed director of the National Estuary Program presented a program on the Stormwater Referendum.The Education Committee is conducting a survey to determine voter knowledge of the issue and will start an education campaign next spring. The Technical Committee has hired a consulting firm to be assisted by Brett Gaar to develop structure and details of the plan. Farmland and undeveloped land were not included by the Legislature in the Bill.
