Friends of Baldwin meeting Apr 5th, 2010 Tom Schlinkert reported that the state appears to have abandoned their controversial plan for the I-65- I-10 Connector in favor of the County Plan endorsed by Friends of Baldwin. FOB needs to remain watchful to try to avoid the parkway with limited access becoming a commercial corridor. Emilee Lyons reported that members of the Stormwater Initiative Steering Committee will meet with Friends of Baldwin Steering Com. for an update and to investigate a role for FOB for advocacy before the referendum in Nov. Tom Schmitz announced that Stormwater will be discussed at the Baldwin Co. Environmental Advisory Board meeting at Five Rivers on Fri., Apr. 9 from 8:30 until 12:00. The public is invited. Tom Schmitz announced that International Paper received their permit for the outfall into Perdido Bay utilizing a huge investment in new equipment to greatly reduce pollution. Tom Schlinkert announced that the Alabama Coastal Foundation is sponsoring a gumbo cook-off at Five Rivers on Thurs., Apr.8 at 5:30 p.m. Dick Sute announced that much hard work and aggressive opposition have been part of the District 14 Zoning effort. The vote will be on Apr. 13. A copy of the front page of the Mobile Register photo showing raw sewage from the Baldwin Co. Sewer Service being discharged into a creek was circulated.The bill before the Legislature regarding Baldwin Co. private sewer companies is hard to understand but basically says that private sewer companies are due a fair rate. The bill is unlikely to pass this far into the session of the Legislature, but it was widely felt that Rep. Steve McMillan and other legislators shold be asked to give a program soon to explain why Baldwin remains the only county in the state without private sewer regulation. Doug Holton introduced the speaker Chip Brown, candidate for the Alabama Public Commission.He stated his belief that all public utilities in the State should be under the authority of the Alabama Public Commission .
